John J. Mack T'68

John MackMr. Mack is chairman of Morgan Stanley.  During his career with the company, he has served as vice president, principal, managing director, and head of the Worldwide Taxable Fixed Income Division.  When Morgan Stanley merged with Dean Witter in 1997, he was the newly created firm's president and chief operating officer.  His other past positions include chairman of Pequot Capital Management, co-chief executive officer of Credit Suisse Group, and chief executive officer of Credit Suisse First Boston. 

Mr. Mack earned a B.A. in history from Duke in 1968.  He was a member of the Campaign for Duke Steering Committee, and has served on the Fuqua School of Business Board of Visitors and the Annual Fund Executive Committee.  He also held a leadership role for his 35th reunion.

Mr. Mack has served as a trustee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the University Hospitals of both Columbia and Cornell, and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.  In addition, he has served as a director of IMG and Catalyst, and as a member of The Business Council and The Business Roundtable.  He has also been a member of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing, the International Advisory Panel of The Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the Executive Committee of the Partnership for New York City.

Elected to the Duke University Board of Trustees in 1997, Mr. Mack serves on the Business and Finance Committee.  He has previously served on the Academic Affairs, Medical Center Affairs, Building and Grounds, and Human Resources Committees. 

He and his wife, Christy K. Mack, have three children: Stephen Mack, John Mack, T'99, and Jenna Mack, T'01.
