Belton Moore graduated from Duke University with master’s degrees in public policy and business administration and will join Boston Consulting Group as a management consultant in August 2026.
Belton has dedicated his career to advancing economic development with a focus on rural and tribal communities. As a policy associate with NC Gov. Roy Cooper’s Hometown Strong initiative, he worked with Cabinet agencies and local government leaders to increase access to state resources in the nation’s second-most rural state. Belton later served as a program officer for the Native American Agriculture Fund, a private charitable trust dedicated to increasing access to capital for Native American farmers and ranchers.
At Duke, Belton focused on understanding how the changing global economic order impacts communities at the local level. A Rubenstein Fellow and Stavrinides Scholar, he co-founded the Business & Policy Club, served as president of the Native American Graduate and Professional Student Association, and co-chaired Fuqua’s Blue Devil Weekend. Belton interned with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s CHIPS Program Office and was a Hinman Memorial Fellow at Silverado Policy Accelerator.
Belton knows firsthand how powerful and life-changing Duke’s education, research, and care can be, both for individuals and for the broader communities it serves. Duke’s first century was defined by extraordinary growth and global ambition. Belton believes that its second century will depend on strengthening institutional trust and balancing Duke’s global leadership with its responsibility to its home state. As Young Trustee, he is committed to helping ensure that Duke remains a force for good in North Carolina and around the world generations to come.
Belton grew up on a family farm in Robeson County, NC, and is an enrolled citizen of the Lumbee Tribe. He earned undergraduate degrees in economics and Spanish from NC State University, where he was a Park Scholar and a Student Government Senator. A proud product of public schools, he graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham and received the Young Alumni Award. Belton lives with his wife, Kamryn Locklear Moore (MBS ’21), in Winterville, NC, where she is a medical resident at ECU Health.
Belton was nominated by the Graduate/Professional Young Trustee Nominating Committee in 2026. He is serving a two-year term on the board, one year as an observer and one year as a voting member. He is an observer on the Graduate and Professional Education and Research Committee.
