Raised in Montclair, NJ, Drew has a deep appreciation for education, given its integral role in his family’s story. K-12 educators, a student-athlete, and international perspectives among his close relatives give him a foundation to better empathize with and elevate the multitude of diverse experiences in the Duke community. As Student Organization Finance Committee Chair, Drew partnered with arts, cultural and identity, and region-focused organizations, increasing programming financial support and committee representation. As Student Director of Belonging and Senior Class President, Drew collaborated across constituencies to initiate community-building initiatives and help seniors to seed their lifelong connection to the institution as alumni. He is also an undergraduate representative on the Board of Trustees External Engagement Standing Committee and the Racial Equity Advisory Council. A Statistical Science major and previous Durham and Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools volunteer, he is passionate about data science education and has conducted digital learning research through Bass Connections.
Drew believes that Duke’s approaching centennial makes this moment a particularly exciting and important time to serve as Young Trustee. As the university both celebrates and reflects on its past, opportunities abound to chart a more innovative and equitable second century. Drew’s broad stakeholder experiences across the Duke community have enabled him to build sustained relationships that have given him an intimate understanding of the push and pull of university governance. Serving on the Board would be an exciting opportunity for Drew to continue his four years of service, allowing him to contribute to Duke’s mission at the strategic level.
