Hope Morgan Ward

Hope Morgan Ward is a bishop of the United Methodist Church, serving as Bishop of the Mississippi Conference from 2004-2012 and Bishop of the North Carolina Conference from 2012- 2021.

She holds a B.A. in English and Religion from Trinity and a MDiv from Duke Divinity School.

Bishop Ward grew up on a farm in eastern North Carolina. She and her husband Mike Ward live in Raleigh, NC. Their son, Jason T'01, was a Benjamin Duke Scholar. Jason teaches history at Emory University and his wife Alison Greene teaches at Candler.  Their daughter, Brooke and her husband Derek Taira are on the faculty of University of Hawaii-Manoa.  They have four grandchildren:  Amos, Theo, Morgan and Nyla.

Elected to the Board of Trustees in 2010, Bishop Ward currently serves on the Undergraduate Education Committee.  Bishop Ward served on Duke Divinity School’s Alumni Board of Directors from 1997-2001 and Board of Visitors from 2002-2008.
