

Steven M. Scott, M.D. serves as chairman of Scott Holdings, LLC, an entrepreneurial medical investment company. He is the founder of various healthcare companies, including, Vista HealthPlan, a nationwide HMO and Phoenix Physicians, a national provider of hospital-based physician practice management services as well as various technology company startups.
Since the sale of Vista HealthPlan and Phoenix Physicians, Dr. Scott committed himself to service on boards that further higher education development, particularly in graduate education and research. In addition, Dr. Scott supports efforts aimed at meeting workforce requirements for medical research and biotechnology firms.
He received his medical degree from Indiana University Medical Center and completed his residency training at the Duke University Medical Center. In 1978, Dr. Scott was appointed and continues to serve as the Assistant Consulting Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University. He is licensed to practice in Indiana, as well as in most states by reciprocity including Florida and North Carolina. He is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society and the Florida Medical Society among others.
Dr. Scott was elected to the Board of Trustees of Duke University in 2014 and is a member of the Resources Committee and the Duke and Durham Today and Tomorrow Strategic Task Force.
Dr. Scott currently also serves on the Duke University Health System Board of Directors and is a member of the Compliance/Audit Committee. In addition, Dr. Scott served on the Duke Forward campaign steering committee which raised $3.85 billion in gifts and pledges, exceeding the committee’s goal by $600,000,000.
Dr. Scott currently serves on the State University System of Florida Board of Governors. He was a member of the University of Florida Board of Trustees from 2006 – 2018, and served as acting Chairman from 2015 – 2017. He served on several committees including the Board of the University of Florida Investment Corporation (UFICO), and extensively on various Boards and Committees of the Florida Health System.
Dr. Scott and his wife, Becky, live in Palm Beach County, Florida. They have five children, including Daniel Scott, who graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine (MD) and the Fuqua School of Business (MBA) in 2014 and completed a residency program at Duke University in 2019, and Elizabeth Scott, who graduated from Duke University School of Medicine (MD) in 2016 and is currently in a residency program at the University of Iowa.
