Vikas Patel is the owner of and principal physician at North Carolina Dermatology Associates, based in Raleigh, NC. He founded the practice in 2009 providing comprehensive medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services.
Vikas is a committed volunteer for Duke. He served on his 25th year reunion committee. In addition, he was his Class Representative for his 5 and 20-year Medical School reunion as well as the Co-Chair for his 15-year reunion. He has also been active on the Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee since 2011 as well as on the Duke Alumni Triangle Regional Board. He joined the Duke Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2016 and later served as a member of the Executive Committee and co-chairing the Awards & Recognition Committee and the Committee for Diversity and Inclusion. He will serve as the president of the Duke Alumni Association from 2022-2024.
Vikas has mentored many current and previous students via the Duke Alumni Network, Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, and the Re-Imagine Medicine Fellowship (ReMed) through Kenan Institute for Ethics. In addition to his volunteer work with Duke, Vikas also serves on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Board of Trustees for the Triangle Chapter since 2016 and has been heavily involved with their Man and Woman of the Year Campaign by serving on their leadership team and also chairing the Trustee Development Committee.
Vikas is a 1996 graduate of Trinity College with a Biology and Religion double major. He continued his studies at Duke’s School of Medicine. Upon graduation from Duke Med in 2000, Vikas moved to San Francisco for his medical internship at California-Pacific Medical Center before returning back to Duke in 2001 to complete his residency in the Department of Dermatology. Vikas practiced dermatology in the Washington DC area from 2004-2009 and returned back to the Triangle to start his own practice. He and his wife, Neha, Head of Customer Success Practice for Adobe, Inc. live in Cary, NC with their twin daughters.
Elected to the Board of Trustees in 2021, Vikas serves as an observer on the External Engagement Committee. He is serving a four-year term on the board, two years as an observer and two years as a voting member.
