Steven M. Scott, M.D. serves as chairman of Scott Holdings, LLC, an entrepreneurial medical investment company. He is the founder of various healthcare companies, including, Vista HealthPlan, a nationwide HMO and Phoenix Physicians, a national provider of hospital-based physician practice management services as well as various technology company startups.
Since the sale of Vista HealthPlan and Phoenix Physicians, Dr. Scott committed himself to service on boards that further higher education development, particularly in graduate education and research. In addition, Dr. Scott supports efforts aimed at meeting workforce requirements for medical research and biotechnology firms.
He received his medical degree from Indiana University Medical Center and completed his residency training at the Duke University Medical Center. In 1978, Dr. Scott was appointed and continues to serve as the Assistant Consulting Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University. He is licensed to practice in Indiana, as well as in most states by reciprocity including Florida and North Carolina. He is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society and the Florida Medical Society among others.
Dr. Scott was elected to the Board of Trustees of Duke University in 2014 and is a member of the Business and Finance Committee as well as the Duke Health Academic Affairs Committee.
Dr. Scott currently also serves on the Duke Health Board of Trustees, he is a member of the Finance and Audit Committees. In addition, Dr. Scott served on the Duke Forward campaign steering committee which raised $3.85 billion in gifts and pledges, exceeding the committee’s goal by $600,000,000.
Dr. Scott is a member of the University of Florida Board of Trustees. He has served or is currently serving on several committees including the University of Florida Investment Corporation (UFICO), Finance Committee and Buildings and Grounds Committee over the last 11 years.
Dr. Scott and his wife, Becky, live in Palm Beach County, Florida. They have five children, including Daniel Scott, who graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine (MD) and the Fuqua School of Business (MBA) in 2014 and is currently in a residency program at Duke University, and Elizabeth Scott, who graduated from Duke University School of Medicine (MD) in 2016 and is currently in a residency program at the University of Iowa.
