Uzoma (Uzo) Ayogu graduated from Duke University in 2017 with a BSE in Mechanical Engineering. He was born in Nigeria and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. Uzo is CTO & Co-founder of Releaf - a digital-industrial company employing technology to accelerate agricultural-based industrialization in Nigeria. Uzo founded Releaf with two other Nigerian-Americans after they pushed off jobs at Bain, Facebook & Microsoft. Among Releaf’s investors is Y Combinator.
While at Duke, Uzo chaired Pratt’s Undergraduate Committee on Diversity & Inclusion. He is also a member of the Engineering Alumni Council as ESG class President and a member of Dukes & Duchesses. Uzo is active in community building on campus as a member of and past president of Alpha Phi Alpha.
Uzo has spent two summer sessions and a semester conducting undergraduate research: first, as an aeroelasticity researcher in the nonlinear dynamics lab and most recently as a drone researcher in the Intelligent robotics lab where he developed a conceptual system to autonomously deliver Antiretrovirals to rural clinics in South Africa.
Internationally, Uzo has led engineering impact projects in Brazil & Togo and has been selected as a US-China emerging leader delegate by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Mr. Ayogu was elected young trustee by the undergraduate student body in 2017, and served as an observer to the Board and the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee and the Facilities and Environment Committee in 2017-2018. A voting member in 2018 through 2020, Mr. Ayogu is a member of the Undergraduate Education Committee, the Committee on Honorary Degrees, and the Advancing Duke Science and Technology Task Force.
