Gerald Hassell is the former Chairman and CEO of BNY Mellon, a global investments company. Mr. Hassell spent his entire career with BNY Mellon, beginning in The Bank of New York's management development program. He has had direct management responsibility for the company's broad range of investment services businesses, including asset servicing and issuer, broker-dealer, treasury and clearing services, as well as operations and technology. He was named to The Bank of New York's executive committee in 1994, and named president and elected to its Board of Directors in 1998.
A Duke alumnus with a bachelor's degree in economics, Mr. Hassell also earned an M.B.A. from the New York University Stern School of Business.
Mr. Hassell is on the Boards of Directors of Comcast Corporation and MetLife. In addition, he is on the Board of Lincoln Center and is Vice Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York.
Mr. Hassell was a member of the Fuqua School of Business Board of Visitors from 1999 until 2018, serving as chair from 2006-2011, and reunion co-chair in 2007-2008. He and his wife, Anita-Agnes Hassell, have two children, Jarred and Alyssa T'08.
Mr. Hassell was elected to the Duke University Board of Trustees in 2011. He currently chairs the Resources Committee and serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Audit and Compliance Committee.
