The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of Duke University. As the university’s fiduciary, the board is responsible for Duke’s long term health, overseeing and aligning its strategic direction, educational policy, finances and operations with the mission of the university. Through its two affiliated boards, it oversees the Duke University Health System and DUMAC, Inc., the university’s investment company.  

This website is intended to provide information about the Board of Trustees to members of the Duke University community.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

The Office of the Secretary of the Board of Trustees is now accepting applications for the two at-large student body seats on the Young Trustee Nominating Committee. To apply to serve on the nominating committee, please complete the Young Trustee Nominating Committee application by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 24, 2021.

Identity/Affinity Group Presidents - Regarding the five identity/affinity group representatives, we invite each identity/affinity group to nominate one student for service on the nominating committee. Please submit your nomination by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 24, 2021.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Young Trustee Nominating Committees (there are two - one for undergraduates and one for graduate/professional students) will convene once in the fall semester to select their chairs and discuss the role of the Young Trustee, including the specific skills, knowledge and experience that make a good trustee. The nominating committees will meet several times in the spring semester with the goal of submitting their recommendations for Young Trustee to President Vincent Price by the end of March 2022. No member of the nominating committees may apply for the Young Trustee position or endorse a Young Trustee candidate in this year’s cycle. If you have any questions, please email secretary@duke.edu.
