Laura Meyer Wellman is the immediate past-president of the Duke University Alumni Association. Elected to Duke’s Board of Trustees in 2017, she serves on the External Engagement Committee, Governance Committee, and Duke’s Centennial Celebration Strategic Task Force. Mrs. Wellman is serving a four-year term on the board, two years as an observer and two years as a voting member.

Mrs. Wellman is the Honorary Consul of the Republic of France for the Piedmont and Western regions of North Carolina, appointed in 2011. She most recently served as the first president and chief executive officer of E4E Relief™, a position from which she retired at the end of 2016. Her prior career experience includes leadership roles in marketing, investments, management, and business development at Citibank, Bank of America and Foundation For The Carolinas.

A committed volunteer to Duke since graduation, Mrs. Wellman has served on the President’s Advisory Committee on Investment Responsibility as well as the Trinity Board of Visitors. She has been active in diverse areas, including Women’s Forum, Duke Forward, the Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee, and reunion planning, and as a conference panelist.

An engaged Charlotte-area community leader in international, cultural and educational organizations, she currently serves on the boards of the World Affairs Council (Charlotte) and Opera Carolina. She is a member of the International Women’s Forum, Women Executives and the French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Carolinas.

Mrs. Wellman received her A.B. (double major) in Russian and French from Duke and an M.B.A. from the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University. She and her husband, Ward, a retired attorney and adjunct professor at Wake Forest University, live in Charlotte. They have two adult children, a son Alex, and a daughter, Edie (Duke A.B.’11).
