Max Perkins, and his wife, Cameron Howard (T’09), reside in Durham with their three young sons. While at Duke, Max majored in Political Science and was active outside of his studies as a four-year manager for the Men’s Basketball team, a dream come true. He was also a leader on Campus Council, including two years as the Chair of LDOC, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. After graduation, Max joined the Athletic Department for a year as Intern for the Legacy Fund and Men’s Basketball. That extra year at Duke allowed him the time to sing in the Chapel Choir, another dream come true, which included taking part in the Inauguration of President Brodhead and the installation of Dean Sam Wells.
Upon leaving Durham in 2005, Max remained engaged with Duke through AAAC interviews, serving as a Co- Chair for each Reunion cycle, and on Duke Alumni regional boards in Philadelphia (2012-2013), London (2015-2018), and the Triangle (2020-present). Max has served on the global Duke Alumni Board since 2021 and is now president-elect. He also contributes his time and expertise through the office of Residential Life, the Career Center, the Athletic Department’s Future Initiative, and as an executive speaker in the Master of Engineering in Cybersecurity and Executive Cybersecurity Education programs.
Max is Head of Insurance Solutions and COO for Spektrum Labs, an early-stage technology company building the first cyber resilience network. Max’s professional career has been focused on insurance and risk management with particular expertise in intangible boardroom risks such as cyber, privacy, and intellectual property, and the overall impact of technology. Prior to joining Spektrum, Max was head of Strategy & Innovation for AXIS Capital’s Cyber & Technology underwriting division where his responsibilities included capital management and leading their team to launching the world’s first securitized Cyber Cat Bond. Prior to joining AXIS in April 2020, he was an insurance broker at Lockton Companies and an underwriter at AIG, CHUBB and Beazley (a Lloyd’s of London Syndicate).
Elected to the Board of Trustees in 2025, Max serves as an observer on Undergraduate Education Committee. He is serving a four-year term on the board, two years as an observer and two years as a voting member.
