Sydney Hunt (she/her) ‘23 is a Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholar double majoring in electrical and computer engineering and computer science, with a concentration in artificial intelligence and machine learning. She is also minoring in gender, sexuality and feminist studies. Post-graduation, she will pursue a Ph.D. in electrical/biomedical engineering. At Duke, Sydney passionately commits herself to STEM retention and diversity as the S.P.I.R.E. Fellows' Living Learning Community Core Founding Member and former Vice President of Durham and Regional Affairs. She co-founded the Duke Technology Scholar’s Academic Support Team and conducts research on the gender gap in STEM. Sydney also co-established the nonprofit CS Sidekicks and co-hosts an engineering podcast with Dr. Rebecca Simmons. Hunt, of Cornwall, NY, is serving her second term on the President’s Council of Black Affairs and is a Duke tour guide. She is certified in Mental Health First Aid and founded the annual “Don’t Waste Food Points” food drive in 2021, which donated over 5,500 meals to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
Sydney desires to make more impactful contributions regarding how and who is being served within the institution. She has an unwavering commitment to Duke and believes her vast array of experiences will provide a unique perspective that will help ensure all members of the Duke community have access to the tools they need to define their own success. She looks forward to extending her education in new and rewarding directions as Young Trustee.
